Battlefields & Borderlands Way 1: Day Walk from Witherley - 7.5 miles
Saturday, 9th October 2021

For a 10am start meet at The Copper Kettle Cafe (CV9 1RE).
This is in the right hand lay-by going North on the A5 just past the turn to Fenny Drayton on the right.
Put the Cafe name into Google Maps, it will take you there. Please bring elevenses and lunch.

A flattish easy walk mostly on footpaths and minor roads. This includes the first leg of the B&BW.

Route: Road into Witherley then footpath to Fenny Drayton followed by footpath to Ratcliffe Culey, here we'll have a pub stop at The Gate Inn, finally footpath back to Witherley where we can have a final drink in the Blue Lion before returning to the cars.
Fenny Drayton, originally Drayton-in-the-Clay (I wonder why?) was the birthplace of George Fox, the founder of the Quaker movement.
We will see a monument to him there. The Church has a small exhibition on the Quakers and one of the oldest complete circles of Yew in the country.
Just one the points of historical interest to be found on this walk.

Please let Boh know if you want to go on this walk.

Battlefields & Borderlands Way

A series of circular walks based on the 42 mile Battlefields & Borderlands Way.
The B&BW is a circular walk in the borders of Warwickshire and Leicestershire.
It is a reasonably flat, very scenic walk which takes in over 2000 years of
historical conflicts, invasions, religious differences, changing countryside ...
These include; the Battle of Watling Street, the Battle of Bosworth and
the Siege of Caldecote Hall.
A book with this title by Eddie Smallwood and Micheal Dix ISBN978-1-5272-8097-7 is available detailing the rich history of every section of the walk and the surrounding area.
